Teaching Fellows

Requirements

Each semester, teaching fellows have three requirements to fill: Educational/Cross-Cultural, Service and Social. We feel that these requirements help to prepare our students for a career in education by expanding their horizons, widening their knowledge within the field of education, encouraging them to become more involved in their communities, and helping them to build networks with current and future educators.

Educational/Cross-Cultural

Each student must attend a seminar or event that either discusses the field of education, or exposes them to a culture of which they are not a member. Students must attend one Education OR Cross-cultural event a semester. Although we try to list numerous activities happening within the School of Education and the University, there are countless opportunities on campus that fill this requirement. If you want to attend an event that is not listed here, contact Cheryl to see if it can fulfill your requirement.

Service

Teaching Fellows are required to volunteer at least five hours of community service each semester. In addition to the opportunities listed, students are free to volunteer with any organization on campus or within the community. Service credit will not be given for work done in conjunction with another class, another organization's service requirement or paid work.

Social

Although most students will no doubt want to attend numerous social activities throughout the semester, everyone is required to attend at least one. To receive social credit, you must attend a planned teaching fellow activity that is posted on the website.
