Student North Carolina Association of Educators

The UNC School of Education Student North Carolina Association of Educators (SNCAE) is a student run group with a focus on teaching careers for both undergraduate and graduate students in the State of North Carolina. It is a pre-professional organization affiliated with the North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE).

The purpose of SNCAE is to “prepare college students for their future as educators.” This goal is accomplished through workshops, conferences, and speakers. Last year the SNCAE UNC chapter brought in Cindi Rigsbee, the 2008-2009 N.C. Teacher of the Year. Additionally, an annual conference is held in Greensboro with SNCAE chapters from other teacher education programs in the state of North Carolina.

SNCAE has a strong commitment to service projects. The chapter has worked with W.G. Pearson Magnet Magnet Middle School in Durham County on a beautification project that included planting flowers outside the school and planning the outline for a mural to be painted inside the school. The members of SNCAE worked side-by-side with students at the school.

SNCAE hopes to become more involved in future community service events as local schools such as tutoring programs, sustainability projects, and food drives. Additionally, they hope to continue to bring powerful educators to UNC’s campus in order to further the pre- service education of the future teachers of North Carolina.
