Spring 2014 Graduation Details

The School of Education Commencement ceremony for all School of Education programs will take place on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 1:00 pm in the Dean Smith Center. Students who will officially graduate in August, meaning all who will enroll in summer classes, are encouraged to attend this ceremony as the school does not host a commencement ceremony in the summer. This would include all MAT students and all School Counseling students. This would also include MA, PhD and EdD students who defended after the submission deadline for this semester.

Graduates will line up beginning at 12:15 on the ground floor of the Smith Center in the tunnels. Students please use entrance D and take the stairs or elevator down to the ground level. Family members and guests should use entrance A and from the concourse level proceed to a seat. We will have student marshals available to make sure you get to the right place if you need assistance.

We anticipate our ceremony will last approximately one hour. Due to the Smith Center being tightly scheduled on Saturday, there will not be an opportunity to linger inside visiting with family and taking pictures. Immediately following the recessional, we ask that all family members and guests exit the facility and meet you outside one of the four exits. Please communicate to your guests the urgency of this request.

Handicapped Parking

The lot immediately in front of the Smith Center will be open for those vehicles displaying a state Disability Parking hang tag. If your guest is coming in a vehicle without a hang tag, but needs close proximity to the facility, please consider dropping them off in front of the building and parking your vehicle in one of the other available lots.

Robes and Hoods

Each graduate is expected to be in a robe to participate in the ceremony. Undergraduate students will wear the Carolina blue robe and mortar board. Masters students will wear the black masters robe and mortar board, plus the masters hood. Doctoral students will wear the doctoral robe (Carolina blue or black depending on what you order), hood and either mortar board or soft cap. Post baccalaureate program completers in BK and Middle grades wear the undergraduate robe. All others wear black. Robes can be ordered from the UNC Student Stores.
