Graduate Admissions - Supplemental Instructions
Master of Education for Experienced Teachers, M.Ed.


  • For most cohorts, licensure as a teacher in North Carolina in the specialty area appropriate for your intended cohort. Lateral entry teachers must complete their initial licensure requirements before entering the program.
  • Two years of teaching experience in your specialty area and your expectation of a contract to continue teaching in that area in North Carolina. Teaching experience can be in any school, public or private, not necessarily in North Carolina. For ECIFS applicants, two years of teaching experience with young children in a public or community-based program is required.
  • Overall four-year GPA of 2.5 or higher on undergraduate transcript.
  • Three letters of recommendation, one of which must be from the applicant’s immediate supervisor (principal or director).
  • A professional statement of purpose that describes your goals in teaching, pertinent background experiences, and relevant aspirations. Your statement should reflect your professional goals and reasoning for pursuing this degree. You may wish to describe how this program helps achieve your career goals and why you are good a candidate. The statement of purpose should be 2-3 pages, single spaced.

Additional Requirements for ECIFS Applicants

Option One Applicants:

  • A copy of current teaching license.
