Patrick Akos, coordinator of the school counseling program, and students from the program went to Raleigh on Thursday, March 7, to meet with legislators as part of the N.C. School Counselors Association’s “legislative day.”

Akos and the students met with several legislators from Orange and Durham counties and with Rep. Craig Horn of Union County, who serves as chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Education.

Students taking part were Chancie Housholder, Kevin Duquette, Maureen Kurz and Molly Monroe.

Counselors and students asked legislators to support initiatives to preserve counselor positions, protect time spent on serving students, reduce student-to-counselor ratios and increase counselor pay.
