Katie Doyle, Sarah Richardson graduate with Highest Honors

Katie Doyle and Sarah Richardson were awarded highest honors for their senior theses completed in the School of Education. Both students graduated today at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill commencement ceremony at Kenan Stadium.

Doyle, an elementary education major, completed a thesis titled “Representation of Minorities in Newbery Award Winning Books Since 1985.” Professor Alan Tom was her faculty advisor on the project.

Richardson’s thesis was titled “Investigation of Music as a Mnemonic Device for Students in Grades Three Through Five.” Also an elementary education major, Richardson completed her research under the direction of faculty advisor Rhonda Wilkerson, clinical associate professor of elementary education.

The School of Education’s Honors Program is directed by Gerald Unks, professor of social foundations of education.
