Middle Grades Students Support Victims of Hurricane Katrina

The UNC-Chapel Hill chapter of the Collegiate Middle Level Association (CMLA) sponsored a two week-long school supply drive for the East Baton Rouge Parish public school system, which opened its doors this fall to more than 7,800 new students displaced by Hurricane Katrina.

The drive, which began on Sept. 26, raised more than $200 to be used toward the purchase of classroom textbooks.  In addition, CMLA received thousands of school supply donations including 537 pens, 137 spiral notebooks and 99 erasers.
