The Carolina Slate

December 17, 2009 News from the School of Education at UNC-Chapel Hill

Dear Alumni and Friends,

As we pause to celebrate the beauty of the season, we want to wish you, our extended Carolina family, a happy holiday. We are grateful for all you do for education and for our School.

2010 will be a very special year at the School of Education. We will be commemorating the 125th anniversary of the founding of our School! A committee chaired by Dr. Nancy Farmer (A.B.Ed.’69, M.Ed. ’70, Ed.D. ’81) and Dr. Barbara Holland Chapman (Ph.D. '81) is planning special events to celebrate this milestone.

A highlight of the year will be a research conference to be held on campus next fall to showcase the work of our faculty, alumni and students. We hope you’ll join us!

We encourage all alumni to update your listings in our Alumni Directory and to reconnect with School of Education friends during this celebratory time.

We also want to collect stories and memories from our alumni during the upcoming year. Please begin reflecting on your experiences as a student at our School and at Carolina. This winter we’ll provide a way for you to share those stories with us and one another. We hope to build a treasure trove of memories from a wide range of our 18,000 alumni.

Future editions of The Carolina Slate Online will bring you more information about our 125th celebration as well as other news from our School.

May your New Year be filled with peace and happiness. Happy holidays!
