Donation drive for Oxendine Elementary ending this week

There’s still time to donate as the UNC-Chapel Hill’s Teaching Fellows are collecting items for families of Oxendine Elementary in Maxton, N.C. to help with Hurricane Florence relief. Many of the families continue to struggle to meet their basic needs, and have asked for donations for the following: clothing (ages 4-12), non-perishable foods, coats, shoes, and personal hygiene products. Collection boxes will be located in Peabody Student Services and the 201 Suite.

Alumnus Eldrin Deas joins board of Mexican nonprofit

UAlumnus Eldrin Deas (Ph.D. '18) has been appointed Board Director at Espacio en Blanco, a platform for dissemination, experimentation, learning, and dialogue around contemporary art in Monterrey, Mexico; where artists and audiences can meet, discuss and engage in dynamics different to those that normally happen under museum, gallery or conference models. In addition to its growing archive of interviews, publications and critical texts, Espacio en Blanco offers workshops, exhibitions, screenings and public talks.

Emma Harver, student in the M.A. in International Education program, presented “Knowing your Neighbors: Engaging with Community Experts in Outreach to K-12 Educators” at the 2018 Area Studies & Outreach Conference: Rubber Meets the Road Best Practices in Internationalizing Classrooms and Communities in Chicago, on Nov. 29.
