School hosting ‘Carolina Educational Leadership Summit’ on Saturday

The School of Education will host the “Carolina Educational Leadership Summit’ on Saturday, bringing together faculty researchers, school superintendents, legislators and policymakers, corporate and foundation representatives to discuss challenges in education. The event is designed to identify strengths from among represented groups that can be applied against challenges facing schools today. The event will be held at the FedEx Global Center. Faculty are invited to attend. RSVP to Laurie Norman.

Dean hosting lunches with students on Tuesday, Wednesday

Dean Fouad Abd-El-Khalick and other school leadership are hosting “Lunch with the Deans” for students this week. Undergraduates are invited to lunch on Tuesday, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 02. For the undergraduate lunch, RSVP here. Graduate students are invited to lunch on Wednesday, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. RSVP for the graduate lunch here. Lunch is provided, but please RSVP to ensure an adequate count.

Jeff Greene has new book published

Jeff Greene is a co-editor on a new book that has just been published: The second edition of Handbook of Self-Regulation of Learning and Performance. The book incorporates new research on self-regulated learning and seeks to advance perspective on the scholarship and history of the field. Lynne Vernon-Feagans participates in webinar on Pre-K effects

Faculty member Lynne Vernon-Feagans participated in a webinar that examined findings from studies about the effectiveness of the North Carolina Pre-K program. The webinar was hosted by the N.C. Early Childhood Foundation. Other participants included early childhood education expert Ken Dodge of Duke University, Susan Gates of SAS and Tracy Zimmerman of the N.C. Early Childhood Foundation. George Noblit, doctoral student Eldrin Deas record session on meta-ethnography

Faculty member George Noblit and doctoral student Eldrin Deas have recorded a video that serves as an introduction to meta-ethnography and its uses. The video was produced for the Emerge Project, which works to improve the way researchers report meta-ethnographies. Meta-ethnography was developed in the 1980s by Noblit and collaborator R. Dwight Hare as a method to synthesize data from qualitative studies. The video is available here.

Dede Addy, a Ph.D. candidate in the Culture, Curriculum, and Change strand has had an article published: Addy, N.D.A. (2017). The Color of Crayons: A Preschooler’s Exploration of Race and Difference. Doctoral student Eldrin Deas will present about his community reimagining work in San Antonio, Texas and Princeville, N.C. at the “Aestheticization of the City: The Politics of Cultural Infrastructure” colloquium in Puebla, Mexico next month. Deas will lead a workshop on community-driven archives.
