School Psychology candidate to give talk today
One of the three candidates for a position with the School Psychology program will give a talk today at noon in Peabody 02. Marisa Marraccini will give a talk titled: “Adolescents with Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviors: School Influences and Supports.” The talk will be held at noon in Room 02. A light lunch will be served.
Doctoral students Lucia Mock, Diana Turci win Graduate Student Research Awards
Doctoral students Lucia Mock and Diana Turci have won Graduate Student Research Awards from Carolina’s Center for European Studies. The $2,500 federally funded awards were made in response to proposals by Mock and Turci. Mock’s award will support her study “Becoming and Being a Refugee” in Italy, Denmark and Lebanon for presentation at the European Early Childhood Education Research Association conference in Bologna in the fall. Turci’s award will support her research on the practices of Reggio Emilia, Italy, toddler and preschool centers, with an expectation that the research will result in a conference presentation and publication.
Alumna Cynthia Gerstl-Pepin named dean at UMass Amherst
School of Education alumna Cynthia Gerstl-Pepin has been named dean of the College of Education at University of Massachusetts Amherst. Gerstl-Pepin (Ph.D. ’98) currently serves as associate dean of the University of Vermont’s College of Education and Social Services, where she has been a member of the faculty since 2002. She becomes dean at UMass Amherst on July 1. Gerstl-Pepin was a doctoral advisee of School of Education faculty member Catherine Marshall. The two co-authored the book "Reframing Educational Politics for Social Justice," which is about to enter its second printing.
Alumna Charlotte Agger wins AERA
Alumna Charlotte Agger (Ph.D. ’06) has been named an American Educational Research Association Study of Deeper Learning Fellow. Agger now teaches at Indiana University-Bloomington. The AERA fellowship program on the Study of Deeper Learning supports postdoctoral and early career scholars in education research.
