Eric Houck SOE Brown Bag talk on Wednesday examines N.C. school finance

Eric Houck will present this month’s SOE Brown Bag talk: “School Finance in Recessional Times: A North Carolina Case Study.” The talk will be held at 12:30 p.m. in Peabody 02. Houck, associate professor of educational leadership and policy and an authority on education finance issues, is co-author of one of the leading school finance textbooks.

Keith Sawyer, doctoral student Kayley Lyons to present Friday on creativity in design schools

Bring your lunch and join in a presentation of new research by Keith Sawyer and doctoral student Kayley Lyons on Friday. Sawyer and Lyons will present tentative findings from their recent ethnographic studies of teaching in schools of design, and lead a discussion about the implications for teaching and learning in STEM disciplines. The talk will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Peabody 206.

Education Minor students presenting capstone projects April 12

Education Minor students will present their spring capstone projects with poster presentations around the main floor of Peabody Hall on April 12 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The event will include light refreshments in Room 206 during the presentations for students and guests. The students will also present their posters as part of Carolina’s Celebration of Undergraduate Research on April 18 at the Frank Porter Graham Student Union.

GSA holding Spring Formal on April 1

The GSA’s Spring Formal will be held April 1 at Hickory Tavern in Carrboro. The party begins at 6 p.m. Each ticket is $25 and includes two drinks. Tickets may be purchased in Peabody 020A on Tuesdays from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. or Fridays from 11:15 a.m. to noon. Nominations are being accepted for the School of Education Graduate Student Association. The GSA is looking to fill the following positions for the 2016 – 2017 academic year:

  • Two Brown Bag Chairs
  • Treasurer
