Linda Mason makes presentation in the Netherlands

Linda Mason, professor of special education, made a presentation in the Netherlands at a conference devoted to student writing. The conference, held at Utrecht University, was entitled “Teacher-student-interaction in subject-specific writing.” Mason’s presentation was “Establishing writing routines in the content classroom.”

In the Media: Keith Sawyer cited by Fast Company

Keith Sawyer, the Morgan Distinguished Professor in Educational Innovations, was cited by Fast Company magazine in an article “4 Ways to Find Inspiration Everywhere.” In the article, Sawyer suggests trying new things helps cultivate creativity. He also suggests changing your daily routine can help spur new ideas and open your thinking. For example, he suggests that it’s important to change venues for meetings to help spark creative thinking. The article is available here.

GSA holding bake sale Tuesday

The School of Education’s Graduate Student Association is holding a bake sale on Tuesday to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill. The sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the lobby. During the sale, tickets will be on sale for the GSA’s first annual spring formal.

Graduate student recruitment event, symposium planned for Feb. 8

The School of Education will host a graduate student recruitment event on Feb. 8, coinciding with the Graduate Student Association’s Research Symposium. The recruitment event’s welcome from the dean is at 9:30 a.m., followed by meetings with faculty members and advisors, then sessions on SOE academic programs and research and teaching opportunities. The GSA Student Research Symposium begins at noon.
