Commencement on Saturday
The School of Education’s Commencement ceremony will be held Saturday in the Dean E. Smith Center. The event is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m., with lineup of students to begin at 12:45 p.m. More details about Commencement are available on the School’s website, here.
Faculty, students invited to opening sessions of early childhood event
The Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute is hosting the 2013 National Early Childhood Inclusion Institute next week. School of Education faculty and students are invited to the opening session and plenaries on Monday as guests of FPG. Highlights of the opening sessions include
- Keynote speaker Micah Fialka-Feldman, a nationally recognized speaker and advocate. He was profiled in this News & Observer column.
- Three top federal early childhood policy leaders will serve as a plenary panel at the Institute. Details are here.
- Janice Fialka, Fialka-Feldman’s mother and a nationally recognized speaker on childhood inclusion issues, will present a second plenary on family-professional collaboration.

LEARN NC wins award to create online history courses
LEARN NC received a $20,000 award from the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources Program (Eastern Region) to design and create a series of online courses titled "America on the World Stage." Each course will explore a topic in American history through a global perspective, provide examples in hands-on teaching approaches, and provide authentic exposure to the Library of Congress's digital archive of primary source documents. Co-sponsored by the Organization of American Historians, these courses will be marketed nationally for an August launch.
