Faculty members who would like to join the group for lunch are urged to notify Ashley Boyd at firstname.lastname@example.org by tomorrow. Other upcoming sessions will be held March 17 and May 19.
The Well: Steve Bronack discusses ‘immersive media’
Research by Steve Bronack, LEARN NC’s new executive director, is the focus of LEARN NC’s blog “The Well” today. Bronack has worked with and researched digital learning environments for many years. In a recent publication, he explored the role of immersive media, such as simulations and role-playing games and augmented reality platforms. Bronack says that pedagogical approaches in using the various available media are more important than the tools themselves. The blog post has tips to help teachers incorporate immersive media into instruction, including that educators today need to recognize that today’s students expect to use technology in their learning and that teachers should not be afraid to do so. The blog post may be found here.
Digital Blue Ridge Parkway project unveiled
An online resource for educators and students that allows exploration of the development and history of the Blue Ridge Parkway is now available. Several School of Education faculty members assisted in development of the K-12 lessons plans included in the project. “Driving Through Time: The Digital Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina” presents photographs, maps, news articles, oral histories and essays documenting development and construction of the parkway’s North Carolina segment. The collection is available here. Lesson plans are listed under “Education.”
