School of Education benefits from Kenan Trust gift to University to hire junior faculty

The School of Education has been designated as one of several beneficiaries of a $5.5 million gift to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from the William R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust. The gift will support the recruitment of 18 outstanding young faculty members across the campus by providing competitive three-year recruitment packages.

An anonymous donor has made an additional commitment for $500,000 for the same purpose.

One new junior faculty member will be recruited in the School of Education, one in the School of Nursing, two in the Kenan-Flagler Business School and 14 in the College of Arts and Sciences, where most of the University’s undergraduate education occurs.

The gifts were announced at the University’s Board of Trustees meeting on March 25, 2010.
