Matching funds for online teacher training

This spring, LEARN NC will help schools pay for teacher training. The Invest in Teachers Grant will award matching funds grants of $5,000 to $50,000 each to North Carolina school systems to help cover the cost of online professional development courses from LEARN NC.

“In a tough economy, training is often the first item cut,” said LEARN NC Executive Director Melissa Thibault. “This grant ensures teachers get the guidance they need to best serve students in North Carolina.”

Though the grant is available to all public schools and school systems in North Carolina, LEARN NC will give preference to rural and low-income districts. To claim the grant, winning schools will be expected to match 50 percent of all awarded funds.

LEARN NC, a non-profit agency of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Education, has helped more than 5,000 teachers improve their craft through online professional development since 2003. In addition to online teacher training, LEARN NC serves more than 30,000 teachers and students daily, delivering lesson plans, best practices and classroom content via www.learnnc.org.
