Melissa Thibault new executive director of LEARN NC

The School of Education has tapped the acting director of LEARN NC as the program’s new executive director.

Melissa Thibault, acting director since Jan. 1, 2007, will lead the K-12 outreach program, which uses the Internet to connect teachers with resources for classroom instruction and professional development.

“Melissa has done an outstanding job in her acting executive director role,” said Jill Fitzgerald, Ph.D., interim school dean. “LEARN NC is a vital outreach arm of the School of Education, and I know that the organization will thrive under Melissa’s leadership.”

As executive director, Thibault will oversee new initiatives to connect North Carolina teachers with the expertise and resources of universities, libraries, museums and fellow educators. She has worked in public education for 10 years, joining LEARN NC in 2000 as media services director. In 2005, she was named associate director.

LEARN NC serves more than 25,000 teachers and students daily through its Web site,, delivering lesson plans, best practices and classroom content to schools in all 115 North Carolina school systems, 50 states and 145 countries.
