School invites applications for new practitioner faculty position, other faculty, administrative posts

The School of Education invites applications and nominations for seven positions for practitioner faculty, other faculty and administrators.

Brief descriptions of the current searches follow. More information is available through the UNC-Chapel Hill Office of Human Resources or from the search committee chairs, who are designated below:

  • P-12 Distinguished Educator
    The School is seeking to hire a public school educator for a newly created P-12 Distinguished Educator position. This person will work with the faculty and dean to deepen and extend the School’s collaboration with P-12 schools and districts and their communities. The position will be for a fixed term of three years, nine months/year.  Interested educators are encouraged to apply.   • Hybrid Teacher Educator
    The School is seeking a veteran educator who has experience both in the P-12 world and in higher education for a newly created Hybrid Teacher Educator position. This person will bring knowledge both of P-12 schools and of pre-service teacher preparation. Qualifications include an earned doctorate in education, at least five years of experience in a high-needs P-12 setting, experience with pre-service teachers, knowledge of educational research and evaluation, and demonstrated success in working with P-12 and university educators.   • Robena and Walter E. Hussman, Jr. Distinguished Professorship in Educational Reform
    In addition, the School is seeking a nationally recognized scholar to fill the Robena and Walter E. Hussman, Jr. Distinguished Professorship in Educational Reform. This endowed professorship will be held by a scholar who is committed to transforming education to achieve greater equity and learning for every student. An adjunct appointment in the Department of Public Policy is possible, along with an appointment at the Carolina Institute for Public Policy and the James B.   • Frank A. Daniels Jr. Distinguished Professorship in Mathematics Education
    The School also is seeking a nationally recognized scholar to fill the Frank A. Daniels Jr. Distinguished Professorship in Mathematics Education. The position involves articulation of a distinguished research agenda, teaching graduate and/or undergraduate courses, advising graduate students, collaborating with Arts and Sciences faculty and P-12 educators on improving mathematics instruction and learning, and providing School/University, local, state, and national leadership in mathematics education.   • Assistant Professor of English as a Second Language
    A faculty search is under way for an Assistant Professor of English as a Second Language (ESL)/Education for Linguistically and Culturally Diverse Learners. The person who fills this position must hold an earned doctorate in second language education, TESOL or a related field of research, and must have teaching experience at some level of PreK-12 ESL and/or involvement with PreK-12 ESL teacher education. Potential for developing a strong record of research publication is expected, as well as commitment to teaching and service.   • Assistant Dean for Administration and Finance
    A sixth search is under way for an Assistant Dean for Administration and Finance. The person who fills this position will be responsible for planning and administration for the School of Education including budgets, financial management, resource allocation systems and procedures, human resources management, grant administration, staff development, facilities management and administrative liaison within and beyond the university.   • Associate Director for the Center for Mathematics and Science Education
    The School also is searching for an Associate Director for the Center for Mathematics and Science Education. The position is a five-year fixed-term appointment, with the possibility of renewal. The Associate Director will assist the Director in a wide range of responsibilities including administration, staff supervision, budget management, program development and evaluation, school system liaison, and proposal development.
