New York Times: When you need creativity to strike, make way and gear up

Keith Sawyer, the Morgan Distinguished Professor in Educational Innovations, got a mention in the New York Times in an article in the “Your Money” section about how to prepare for creative work.

The article, by Carl Richards, author of “The Behavior Gap” and “The One-Page Financial Plan,” describes how to get ready for work that requires using creativity.

In making the point that you don’t have to wait for creativity to strike Richards cites Sawyer:

“It is, indeed, possible to be creative on purpose. Art Markman lists some great tools in an article for “Fast Company.” One of the foremost experts on creativity, Keith Sawyer, has written many books about it.”

The article goes on to describe Richards’s practice of first getting all his tools together for whatever creative task on which he’s embarking.
