Patrick Akos elected to National Career Development Association board

Patrick Akos, professor of school counseling and school psychology, has been elected to the board of directors of the National Career Development Association.

The NCDA is considered the leader in developing standards for the career development profession, and works with licensing and credentialing bodies to support the preparation and recognition of career counselors and career development practitioners. Akos will serve as the trustee representing counselor educators and researchers.

Akos, who joined UNC-Chapel Hill’s School of Education in 2001, has helped lead research on school and career transitions as well as strengths-based counseling approaches.

Akos has also been a leader in establishing Thrive@Education, a curricular component of the Thrive@Carolina campuswide initiative aimed at helping undergraduate students transition to college life and to help them succeed during their time at Carolina.

He served as a director of the American School Counseling Association from 2013-2016, was an Academic Affairs fellow with the UNC System office from 2016-2018, and was recently named to the board of directors of the Epilepsy Alliance North Carolina.
