Audrey Heining-Boynton Named N.C. Foreign Language Teacher of the Year

Audrey Heining-Boynton, professor of foreign language education and English as a second language, received the Teacher of the Year Award from the Foreign Language Association of North Carolina at its annual conference in October 2005. The award is given annually to honor an outstanding foreign language teacher in North Carolina at any level, kindergarten through post-secondary.  Heining-Boynton, who has served this year as president of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), was cited for her outstanding teaching and service both to North Carolina and nationally. She has provided significant leadership for the nationwide celebration of “2005: The Year of Languages,” a yearlong endeavor to highlight the importance of language learning and cultural understanding in the United States. She presided at the annual ACTFL convention in Baltimore, Md., in November 2005.
