Mary Ruth Coleman Elected to Lead Council for Exceptional Children

Mary Ruth Coleman, senior scientist at the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute (FPG) and clinical associate professor at the School of Education, has been elected president of the Council for Exceptional Children.  Founded in 1922 and headquartered in Arlington, Va., the Council is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities. It has more than 50,000 members in the United States, Canada and around the world. Coleman will head a 21-member Board of Directors, the administrative, legislative and policy making body of the Council.  She will serve a three-year term, beginning in January 2006, as president-elect, president and immediate past president.
