School of Education Commencement

The School of Education’s Commencement ceremony will be held Saturday, May 11, 2013, in the Dean E. Smith Center at 1:30 p.m.

This year’s Commencement speaker will be Malbert Smith (M.Ed. '77, Ph.D. '80), co-founder and president of MetaMetrics, a Durham-based firm that produces educational measurement tools.

No tickets are required.

GeneralĀ  details

Graduates taking part in Commencement will line up beginning at 12:45 p.m. on the ground floor of the Smith Center in the tunnel. Students please use entrance D and take the stairs or elevator down to the ground level. 

Family members and guests should use entrance A and from the concourse level proceed to a seat. We will have student marshals available to make sure you get to the right place if you need assistance. 
The ceremony is expected to last approximately one hour. Due to the Smith Center being tightly scheduled on Saturday, there will not be an opportunity to linger inside visiting with family and taking pictures. Immediately following the recessional, graduates and family members and guests are asked to exit the facility and meet outside one of the four exits.

As each graduate is handed his/her diploma cover, a picture will be taken by a professional photographer. Diplomas are mailed to the address you have in ConnectCarolina, approximately 10-12 weeks following commencement. Should your diploma not arrive by then, or should it arrive damaged, please contact the University Registrar’s Office as all UNC diplomas are sent centrally from them to all students in all programs.
