Black/African-American Alumni Reunion 2011

October 28-29, 2011
Friday and Saturday

Dear Black/African-American Alumni of the School of Education:

Last year we had our first organized meeting to celebrate the historic 125th Anniversary of the School of Education and our remarkable place in that history. With the help of our School of Education, we celebrated each other and our first annual Impact Award recipient, Dr. Carol Malloy with a lovely reception. Our gathering was so successful that we are doing it again during Homecoming Weekend on Oct. 28-29, 2011.

On Friday, October 28 at 6:30 p.m., we invite you to join other Black alumni, guests, and friends for a special celebration at the Sonja Haynes Stone Center. Highlights will include an opportunity to mingle with fellow alumni, remarks from Dean McDiarmid, as well as our second Impact Award presentation. On Saturday, October 29, we invite you to Peabody Hall for an opportunity to discuss how to sustain this annual event as well as cultivate valuable relationships (mentoring; scholarships for Black/African-American students in Education; nominating alumni for alumni awards; professional development opportunities; etc). The time for this meeting will be determined once the UNC-WFU football game time has been confirmed. We will notify all registered participants at that time.

There is no cost to attend the reception and planning session, but we must know your attendance plans so we can prepare for the event.  Please RSVP by Oct. 20 by emailing Laurie Norman at or or by calling her at (919)

For information about The General Alumni Association and the campus-wide Black Alumni Reunion (BAR) go to the Black Alumni Reunion web site.

We look forward to seeing you on October 28th and/or October 29th.
