      <title>School of Education’s Annual Research Symposium: “Emergent Scholars” - Friday, Jan. 29, 2010</title>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>The School of Education’s Graduate Student Association (GSA) will host the School’s Annual Research Symposium with the theme, “Emergent Scholars.” Graduate students and faculty from all programs are encouraged to participate. The mission statement for this year’s symposium is as follows:</p>
		<p>The UNC School of Education’s Annual Research Symposium joins graduate students and faculty from across program areas to promote scholarship and build community. The focus for the 2010 symposium is &quot;Emergent Scholars&quot;—a dialogue that, with faculty support, will foster professionalism, efficacy, and collaboration among graduate students.</p>
		<p>		  The program will include faculty and student panels and round-table discussions on topics related to the development of scholarship. Proposed topics include: Preparing for conference posters and presentations, publishing, comprehensive examinations, cultural and racial diversity in the academy, activism in the academy, the dissertation process and preparing for the job search.</p>
		<p>Lunch will be provided on-site.  Cost TBA, but minimal.</p>
		<p>There is no charge to participate. Online registration will be available (dates TBA).  </p>
		<p><strong>Time:</strong> 10 a.m.-3 p.m.<br />
		  <strong>Place:</strong> Peabody Hall<br />
		  <strong>Cost:</strong> There is no charge to attend the symposium. Lunch will be provided on-site for free or for a small fee (cost TBA).<br />

      <description><![CDATA[	<p>Two graduate programs in the School of Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are hosting a weekend for prospective students Friday-Saturday, Jan. 29-30, 2010. Students who are interested in the Early Childhood, Intervention and Literacy (ECIL) research specialization or the Educational Psychology, Measurement and Evaluation (EPME) research specialization of the <a href="http://soe.unc.edu/academics/education_programs.php">Ph.D. or M.A. program in Education</a> are encouraged to attend, regardless of whether or not they have applied for admission.  </p>
		<p>The ECIL and EPME faculty and current students will host information sessions on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, including a dinner with faculty and students on Friday evening.</p>
