Kelley Dull Ponder (M.Ed. '02) wins Teacher of Year honor

Kelley Dull Ponder (M.Ed. '02), a school counselor at Croswell Elementary School in Easley, S.C., has been honored with the school's Teacher of the Year award.

Ponder, who has worked at the school for 12 years, said that she felt especially honored as a counselor to be nominated and to win the award.

"To be pulled in with classroom teachers and to have teachers even nominate me is an honor," she said in an interview with The Easley Progress newspaper. "It says so much to me about the staff and I am forever honored to think that they think of me as their representative."

With the award, Ponder became a finalist for the Teacher of the Year honor in the School District of Pickens County. In 2008, Ponder was a semi-finalist for National Counselor of the Year.

Ponder said she considered herself fortunate to be in a job that she loves.

"I am incredibly lucky first and foremost because I am around 500 kids eight hours a day," she said. "There are lots of challenges that go along with it, but it's a great opportunity to help kids."

Ponder told the newspaper that she works to do all she can for the students at her school.

"I want to lay my head down on the pillow at night knowing that I've done what's best for kids," she said.
