Elizabeth Shearer (M.Ed. '84) named regional "Principal of the Year" finalist

Elizabeth Shearer, who received a master’s of education in special education from UNC in 1984, has been named a regional finalist for the 2011 Wachovia North Carolina Principal of the Year.
Shearer is principal at City of Medicine Academy in Durham, where she has worked since 2008. Shearer has worked in Durham Public Schools since 1993. Previously she served as principal of Lakewood Elementary from 2005-2008. She also worked as a program administrator at Hillside High School from 2002-2005 and was principal at E.K. Powe Elementary from 1996-2002. In addition, she was an assistant principal at Holt Elementary from 1993-1996.
In the statewide competition Shearer will represent the North Central Region. The Wachovia North Carolina Principal of the Year will be announced in the spring.
