Katie Hammond Wall (A.B.Ed. '05), an eighth-grade math and social studies teacher at Clayton Middle School, has been named Johnston County’s Teacher of the Year.
Wall received the award from the Johnston County Association of Chambers of Commerce at the association’s annual Flame for Learning Award ceremony in April. More than 120 teachers were considered for the award.
Wall was honored in part for launching a program called CORE -- Comprehensive Organized Remediation and Enrichment – which is aimed at helping at-risk students by providing tutoring and remediation assistance.
Eddie Price, principal at Clayton Middle, told the Garner-Clayton Record that Wall focuses on professional development and sets high standards for herself as a teacher.
"I think it's just her personality. She just wants more in everything that she does," he said.
