Cindi Rigsbee (A.B.Ed ’79, M.Ed. ’03) named finalist for National Teacher of the Year

Cindi Rigsbee, a sixth- and seventh-grade reading resource teacher at Gravelly Hill Middle School in Orange County, N.C., is one of four finalists for the 2009 National Teacher of the Year. She is currently serving as North Carolina's 2008-09 AT&T North Carolina Teacher of the Year.

Rigsbee earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Education. She has taught in North Carolina schools since 1979.

The National Teacher of the Year Program is a project of the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and is sponsored by the ING Foundation. A panel of educators representing 15 education organizations chose the finalists and will select the 2009 National Teacher of the Year. The national honoree and state representatives will be recognized at a ceremony this spring.
