Tricia Willoughby (A.B. '73) named Executive Director of the North Carolina Business Committee for Education

Tricia Willoughby was tapped by Gov. Mike Easley in August 2005 as the new executive director of the North Carolina Business Committee for Education (NCBCE).

Established in 1983 under the leadership of former Gov. James B. Hunt, NCBCE is a conglomerate of North Carolina businesses that fund initiatives addressing specific education issues affecting the quality of education the state’s children receive and their ability to successfully enter the workforce.

One of Willoughby’s major focuses will be the creation of the nation’s first-ever Center for 21st Century Skills, a program that targets education practices in North Carolina high schools.  The innovative program works to ensure that students are receiving the knowledge and skills necessary to enable them to compete successfully in the state and global economy.

Prior to becoming the NCBCE executive director, Willoughby taught education at Meredith College in Raleigh.  She also served as the interim superintendent of Public Instruction for North Carolina after former State Superintendent Mike Ward retired in the fall of 2004.
