Evaluation of Project Quest

Project has been completed.

Administered through the Wake County Public School System’s Magnet Programs department and implemented in East Garner Middle School, North Garner Middle School and Garner High School, Project Quest is a program designed to increase the successful participation of low-income students in academically rigorous, higher–level academic courses. Funded by a three-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Advanced Placement Incentive Program, Project Quest has three specific program goals: 1) increasing the number and percentage of low-income students in pre-Advanced Placement (AP), AP, and International Baccalaureate courses, 2) improving the performance of low-income students in middle school core academic areas, 3) and enhancing the expertise of teachers in higher-level courses. Ultimately, through a systemic approach for effective change that addresses the needs of students, instructional staff, administration, and family and community members, Project Quest aspires to build an institutional infrastructure to support high achievement among academically promising students from low-income families.

The purpose of the evaluation is to determine the extent to which Project Quest is meeting its objectives as well as to assist in the development of a comprehensive evaluation system through which the program can track its progress. EvAP proposes to apply collaborative evaluation principles and practices, which will progressively engage the project’s leadership team and related staff in the evaluation process as they are able. To this end, EvAP will continue to work with Project Quest to prepare and implement an evaluation plan that will include: evaluation training for project leadership team members and project partners, which will assist them in developing customized school-level evaluation plans annually; technical assistance to project staff as needed to implement the evaluation plans; cross-site identification and summary of common outcomes; and annual sharing of school evaluation results and instruments. EvAP also will assist with compiling an annual summary of outcome accomplishments.
