Lateral Entry Online Course Development and Deployment

Project has been completed.

Summary

LEARN NC will support the development of online courses for teachers who hold Alternative Professional License and who are affiliated with an approved teacher education program on a UNC campus or for individuals that have obtained prescribed programs of study from a Regional Alternative Licensure Center. These online courses will provide greater access to a course of study leading to the completion of the general pedagogy competencies needed to become certified to teach by the NC Department of Public Instruction. Course development will be focused primarily on the following general pedagogy and selected content competencies required to be completed through an approved teacher education program:

  1. instructional methods;
  2. literacy/reading methods;
  3. meeting special learning needs, exceptionalities, and diversity; and
  4. science content.

The initial area of lateral entry course development will address the instructional methods and content competency and focus on science.
