2+2 Science Phase II - Expanded Online Science Course Development

As an extension of the existing grant from the UNC-NCCCS 2+2 E-Learning Initiative, LEARN NC will provide project management for the development of additional courses involving Arts and Sciences and Education faculty from several UNC institutions. In addition, LEARN NC will provide or facilitate faculty training in online course development and instruction, technical and helpdesk support, online course development support, instructional design, pilot offering support, and quality assurance. The courses are developed in the Blackboard Course Management System and upon completion are made available upon request to all 16 UNC system campuses for their use.

With the assistance of the designated Deans of Arts and Sciences and Deans of Education, LEARN NC will collaborate with UNC General Administration in the recruitment and selection of faculty members to develop each online course.  LEARN NC will collaborate with UNC General Administration to identify a course review team, a group of university faculty (including content, pedagogy and/or lab facilitators) that will ensure the quality of the courses.

LEARN NC will be responsible for inserting course materials into Blackboard to create a well designed and easily navigable online course. We believe that removing the faculty from the process of putting their material in Blackboard will allow us to maintain a higher quality of course design, and ensure we are making a best faith effort to provide accessible courses.

LEARN NC will assist in pilot offerings of the courses and be responsible for making sure that courses meet all requirements of the final pedagogy review, that instructor notes are available once the course has been taught, and that an accessibility review has been completed.
