2+2 Online Initiative: Science Course Development

Summary

As a part of the UNC-NCCCS 2+2 E-Learning Initiative, LEARN NC will provide project management for the development of science courses involving Arts and Sciences and Education faculty from several UNC institutions.  These courses are intended to serve high-need areas where few or almost no courses were available at the UNC campuses, such as in mathematics and some sciences, the strategy adopted was to jointly develop of a full set of courses for these degree areas which would be available for use by any campus. The initial focus of this proposal is the science content courses for middle grades teachers. These courses may eventually be used for a broader range of students beyond those who will enroll in the middle grades science program.

In addition to project management, LEARN NC will provide or facilitate: faculty training in online course development and instruction, technical and helpdesk support, online course development support, instructional design, pilot offering support, and quality assurance. The courses are developed in the Blackboard Course Management System and upon completion are stored in UNC’s Online Course Repository (see link below) where they are made available upon request to all 17 UNC system campuses for their use.
