Clinical associate professor Daniel M. Huff is recognized for his skill in choral conducting, his interest in the young voice and his dedication to teacher preparation and socialization. He holds dual appointments in the School of Education and the Department of Music, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the School of Education’s Master of Arts in Teaching Program in music education and teaching choral conducting, voice and piano techniques courses as area head of music education in the Department of Music. Huff has presented 70 classroom choral clinics for teachers and students, more than 20 local and national in-service sessions for public school teachers and pre-service teacher candidates and conducted or adjudicated more than 120 festivals and workshops involving public school students from the Mid-West to the Southeast. His current activities include building on the remarkable increase in participation in the 2nd All-Carolina Invitational Male Choral Festival, and conducting the Wake County Public School System’s Achieving Choral Excellence (ACE) project, which includes an in-service workshop for teachers, choral clinic demonstrations with students in 14 middle schools and two, one-day festivals for all participants. Huff also conducts the UNC Men's Glee Club – a group touring regularly in the Mid-West, East and Southeast – and is director of the UNC-Chapel Hill Summer Music Camp. In 1990, he was named "Outstanding Young Man of America" in recognition of his "outstanding professional attainment, superior leadership ability and exceptional service to community," and in 1999, received the UNC-Chapel Hill Undergraduate Student Teaching Award. Huff is a member of the Music Educator's National Conference, Intercollegiate Men’s Choruses, Inc., the North Carolina Music Educator's Association, Music Educator’s National Conference, the College Music Society and the American Choral Directors Association, serving in several leadership positions in the North Carolina chapter. |
