Catherine “Elise” Barrett is a clinical assistant professor in the School of Education. A former middle school reading and language arts teacher, she currently teaches courses in the Middle School Program, Elementary Education Program and M.Ed. Program for Experienced Teachers. She coordinates the literacy track of the M.Ed. Program for Experienced Teachers and facilitates the Literacy (Reading/Language Arts) Add-On Licensure program. Barrett’s scholarly interest focuses on the positive transformation education and literacy make in the lives of nontraditional college students, their children and their communities. Her further interests include how norms and language established within a group’s culture, class and race affect educational attainment and cultural mobility. Barrett is also active in the middle grades profession and is the faculty sponsor for the Collegiate Middle Level Association, whose members are students in the Middle Grades Education Program. |
