Sessions Spotlighting Democratic Education
Thursday afternoon and Friday morning
The American philosopher, John Dewey, is recognized worldwide for his contributions to progressive education. He emphasized education by and for democracy.
This event brings together education scholars and especially practitioners to celebrate Dewey and to highlight contemporary efforts in democratic education. Endeavors for democratic education include special classroom, school and district projects; service-learning programs, and extracurricular and community activities, especially those for youth.
The meeting will include a broad range of sessions on these topics in addition to the keynote addresses. A special tribute will be held honoring UNC Professor Emeritus Samuel L. Holton.
