The goal of these curriculum materials is to provide a structure
for classrooms that are integrating iPads into their science
instruction.  In this section, we will map out how the interactive
teacher’s guide is structured as well as the materials contained
within the iTunesU course packet.  In this inquiry investigation,
students will conduct an inventory of their school to determine
the sound levels of different areas within their school. Using the
Decibel 10th app, students will  measure decibel levels of sound
around the school. Students will make predictions, collect data
in groups and then compile the data in a Numbers spreadsheet.

In this second  inquiry investigation, students will analyze the
sounds collected during their sound inventory inquiry. Using the
Raven Lite Software - a free download from Cornell University
Ornithology Center - students will analyze sound from the sound
inventory looking at both the waves and sonagrams.  Students
will make qualitative observations about the inventory sounds in
order to strengthen their argument from the first inquiry
experience.

In this third inquiry investigation, students will analyze sound
waves pitch and frequency.  Using the Theramin Smartboard
App - an application from Aartpack- students will analyze sound
waves to look at their differences based upon pitch and
frequency. They will then explore pitch and frequency using the
Space Sound Scope App and the Garage Band App.  Students
will make qualitative observations about the soundwaves in
order to strengthen their argument from the first two inquiry
experiences.

In this final inquiry investigation, students will create either a
Stop Action Motion Movie using iCreate App or a Comic Book
using the Comic Life App. Students will be able to demonstrate
their knowledge and understanding of sound and sound waves.
