Wendy Gratz Borman is responsible for cultivating support among key constituencies of the School of Education. She collaborates with faculty and staff to develop ideas and plans of action for using the resources of the School of Education to strengthen schools and communities across North Carolina.
Wendy has worked at UNC-Chapel Hill since 2000. From 2000-03, she was director of development for the School of Education, where she orchestrated the largest capital campaign in the School’s history. From 2003-05, she worked in the University’s Office of Development as a major gifts officer. She returned to the School of Education in 2005 as assistant dean for external relations.
Before coming to Carolina, Wendy was vice president for institutional advancement at Manchester College. Her other experience includes 10 years in various posts at Carnegie Mellon University, including director of development for the H. J. Heinz III School of Public Affairs, assistant director of the Development Division and Campaign for Carnegie Mellon and associate director for alumni relations.
Wendy provides service to her community as a member of the Board of Directors of North Carolina Hillel, the Jewish student organization for colleges and universities in North Carolina.

Laurie Norman works to build and maintain a productive relationship with alumni, friends and supporters of the School of Education. She oversees the School’s alumni program and recommends and implements strategies to increase the value of events for our key constituencies and for the School. In addition, she coordinates the Annual Fund for alumni and friends of the School of Education.
As an undergraduate at Carolina, Laurie was a founding member of the Order of the Bell Tower – the student alumni association – and served as its president her senior year. In July 1983, she joined the staff of the General Alumni Association where she worked for 13 years as the director of alumni activities. In 1996, she joined Gilchrist Alumni Management Associates in Chapel Hill as vice president and co-owner. She returned to Carolina with the School of Education in December 2002.
Laurie is an active community volunteer, serving as a board member of the University Woman’s Club, the treasurer of the Preservation Society of Chapel Hill and a member of the Board of Trustees of University United Methodist Church.

Linda Baucom develops and implements a communications program that promotes the mission of the School of Education. She serves as a liaison between the School and the media, disseminating news and information about the School of Education, its people and programs. She plans and directs a range of public information activities for the School, including production of an alumni publication, The Carolina Slate, which is mailed twice a year to 21,000 alumni and friends.
Before coming to Carolina in 1980, Linda was director of communications for the State Planning Agency in Minneapolis, Minn., and a communications specialist at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. At UNC-Chapel Hill, she previously worked at the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Center and the Office of the President of The University of North Carolina.
An active community volunteer, Linda is a member of the Board of Directors of Project Graduation, an annual event for graduating high school seniors in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro community. In addition, she has volunteered with numerous committees and programs at University United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill.

Lucy Williams directs an alumni mentoring initiative for new teachers, matching newly hired graduates of the School of Education with experienced alumni teachers to provide support and encouragement in the first years of teaching. She joined the School of Education staff in 2007, after moving to Chapel Hill in 2005.
A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Lucy completed her undergraduate studies with a major in psychology and secondary teaching, and her graduate studies in education. For nine years, she taught fourth and fifth grades in a very diverse public school in Shelbyville, Kentucky. During this time, she also supervised student teachers in her classroom. More recently, she taught three-year-olds at a preschool in Louisville for 15 years. She also has worked at the middle school level as a substitute teacher.
In her community, Lucy has served on the Board of Directors of The Christian Church Homes of Kentucky, a statewide network of communities serving older adults as well as adults and children with developmental disabilities and brain injuries. In addition, she has served on the Board of Directors of the Thomas Jefferson Preschool, a private, nonprofit, parent-governed preschool in Louisville.

Karen Hutchinson directs general office operations for the external relations team of the School of Education. Among her many roles and responsibilities, she conducts donor and gift stewardship, produces research reports, oversees records management and plans meetings and special events.
A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Karen completed her undergraduate studies at UNC-Chapel Hill with a major in economics. After graduation, she worked as an account planner with Sterrett Dymond Advertising in Charlotte, handling the agency’s healthcare and financial clients, conducting marketing and demographic research and maintaining a database for the agency. Karen joined the staff of the School of Education in January 2007.
Karen has provided service to her community through a range of volunteer activities. She is a member of the Junior League of Durham and Orange Counties and volunteers regularly at the Ronald McDonald House. In 2006, she served on the Addy Award Committee for the Advertising Club of Charlotte, a nonprofit professional association serving the local advertising community. She also has volunteered for many years with Habitat for Humanity and Special Olympics.
