UNC Baccalaureate Education in Science and Teaching (UNC-BEST); B.A., B.S.
Program Description
Overview
UNC-BEST is a collaboration between the School of Education and the College of Arts and Sciences. This innovative program offers undergraduate science and mathematics majors enrolled in the following departments the opportunity to complete requirements for a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science and obtain licensure as a secondary science or mathematics teacher in North Carolina in four years.
- Department of Biology
- Department of Chemistry
- Department of Geological Sciences
- Department of Mathematics
- Department of Physics and Astronomy
Students will be prepared for NC licensure in one of the following areas:
- biology (9-12)
- chemistry (9-12)*
- geology (9-12)*
- mathematics (9-12)*
- physics (9-12)
*Contingent on NC Department of Public Instruction approval, which is anticipated during the fall of 2009.
Comprehensive Science (9-12) licensure may also be obtained in certain cases. Students are encouraged to discuss this additional license with their advisor.
