Current M.S.A. and Principal Fellow Students

Will someone already enrolled in the M.S.A. program at UNC Chapel Hill or other accredited M.S.A. program, who already holds a master's degree, be permitted to roll out of that degree program and into this alternative?

Yes. Such candidates should recognize that they will not attain their M.S.A. degree and will need to comply with all add-on program requirements. A rollout, however, will require negotiation with your advisor: a student who has earned 18 credits at the time of the request does not automatically meet the requirements. He or she would be subject to the program requirements: the program staff would evaluate coursework in the other master’s degree and determine whether the coursework already completed in the M.S.A. program reasonably serves as what would otherwise have been tailored as an individualized program in accordance with the add-on licensure program requirements. Candidates need to understand that it is quite possible that this will not be the case.

I am currently a Principal Fellow. Can I “switch” to the add-on program?

Though UNC is one of the North Carolina universities that participates actively in the Principal Fellows Program, it does not administer that program. Current Principal Fellows should contact the Principal Fellows office to determine the implications and consequences of such a decision.
