Foreign Language Prerequisites

Lateral entry teachers are required to pass the Praxis II examination in their respective area of licensure. 

  1. To be eligible for lateral entry licensure in a World Language, candidates must have a bachelor’s degree with a content relevant major (Spanish, French, etc.),
    1. a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and
    2. a score at the Advanced Low level on the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language (ACTFL) Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI); or
  2. If you have a bachelor’s degree, but your major is not in the World Language, you would be eligible for lateral entry licensure with
    1. an Advanced Low score on the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language (ACTFL) Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) and
    2. Intermediate High on the written proficiency assessment.
