Foreign Language Prerequisites
Lateral entry teachers are required to pass the Praxis II examination in their respective area of licensure.
- To be eligible for lateral entry licensure in a World Language, candidates must have a bachelor’s degree with a content relevant major (Spanish, French, etc.),
- a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and
- a score at the Advanced Low level on the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language (ACTFL) Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI); or
- If you have a bachelor’s degree, but your major is not in the World Language, you would be eligible for lateral entry licensure with
- an Advanced Low score on the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language (ACTFL) Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) and
- Intermediate High on the written proficiency assessment.
