Synthesis and Evaluation (SES) Statements

Program and Unit Requirement:
Completion of Synthesis and Evaluation Statements

To demonstrate an integrated understanding of the knowledge, skills and dispositions reflected by the School of Education conceptual framework, each candidate must develop a set of six Synthesis and Evaluation Statements (SESs)—one statement for each principle and disposition.

An SES is a short essay intended to demonstrate mastery of the four principles and two dispositions that the School of Education faculty believes are essential to ensure that teachers know the subject matter they teach as well as how to teach so that all students learn.

Candidates must submit the SES with supporting artifacts prior to completion of the course in which the SES is required. Successful completion of each of the six SESs with an evaluation of Proficient or better is required for graduation from all licensure programs.
