Middle Grades Education; A.B.Ed., Licensure Only and Lateral Entry

Program of Studies

Undergraduate and non-degree, licensure-seeking candidates complete the following sequence of professional studies courses in fall and spring semesters of the first year and fall and spring of the second year.

In addition to the professional education sequence, candidates are also required to complete content area courses in their chosen licensure area(s).

First Year - Fall Semester

EDUC 465* Introduction to Teaching 2 hrs
EDUC 466 Planning for Teaching in the Middle Grades 3 hrs
EDUC 467 Planning for Teaching in the Middle Grades Lab 1 hr
 

First Year - Spring Semester

EDUC 469 Teaching Skills Laboratory 3 hrs
 

Summer

EDUC 464* Teaching Profession (Intro to Middle Grades Teaching) 3 hrs
 

Second Year - Fall Semester

(one for each content area)

EDUC 563 Teaching Language Arts in the Middle Grades 3 hrs
EDUC 564 Teaching Social Studies in the Middle Grades 3 hrs
EDUC 565 Teaching Science in the Middle Grades 3 hrs
EDUC 566 Teaching Mathematics in the Middle Grades 3 hrs
 

Second Year - Spring Semester

EDUC 568 Seminar on Teaching in the Middle Grades 3 hrs
EDUC 569 Teaching Internship 12 hrs

*Applicants admitted as Lateral Entry or Licensure Only may opt to take EDUC 464 offered in the summer as a substitute for EDUC 465 .
