Elementary Education, Teaching Fellow
Class of 2007
Hickory, North Carolina

My background

I attended Hickory High School and played volleyball there for four years. I was also editor of the school newspaper and active in my church youth group and local community.

Why I chose education

I absolutely adore young children and am energized by their enthusiasm for life and learning. Every child has unique talents and gifts and as a teacher, I hope to foster my students’ creativity and help them realize how much potential they have in life.

Why I chose the UNC School of Education

I was selected to be a North Carolina Teaching Fellow, and I knew several people who had gone through the Teaching Fellows program at the UNC School of Education and loved it.

My experience

I have gained countless valuable experiences through the UNC School of Education and the Teaching Fellows program.  I have learned so much from being in various elementary schools in the area. Being at E.K. Powe Elementary in 2005 and 2006 taught me how great teachers in classrooms care about their students enough to know their strengths and weaknesses. Knowing your students allows you to adjust your instruction to fit their specific needs.
