Student Voices - Graduate
Adam Cottrell
Master of Arts in Teaching
Class of 2007
Rutherfordton, North Carolina
My background
I graduated from UNC in May 2006 with a B.S. in physics. As an undergrad, I was a member of the men’s crew team. Now, while working on my master’s degree, I am coaching UNC’s first-year crew team.
Why I chose education
I chose education because anything else would be too normal. Whatever I’ve thought about doing, I’ve wanted to have my hands IN IT, to flirt with the unknown and affect the lives of the people around me.
Why I chose the UNC School of Education
The School and its programs came highly recommended by several recent graduates. I wanted to remain in North Carolina and UNC seemed like the right place.
My experience
I am very much enjoying student teaching. It’s exhilarating, but also extremely challenging. I’ve had a few Zen moments where I’ve realized that teaching has been my toughest, but most rewarding, experience to date.
