Dr. Sharon Rose Powell has led a 40-year career in which she has served as an educator, psychologist and leadership consultant, focused primarily on serving the developmental needs of adolescents.

Sharon is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1968. At Carolina, she was a recipient of the Frank Porter Graham Award. Sharon received her Master of Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the Graduate School of Education at the University of California at Berkeley. She received her doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the Graduate School of Education at Rutgers University.

Sharon is the founding president of the Princeton Center for Leadership Training (PCLT), a not-for-profit organization that develops and disseminates peer leadership, advisory and other evidence-based models for school districts in 14 states, including North Carolina, as well as Asia and South America.

Sharon’s work through PCLT as an educator and as a New Jersey-licensed psychologist has focused on creating wrap-around support systems for adolescents by helping them feel more connected to their peers and teachers and more fully engaged in their learning.

During the past 22 years, PCLT has reached tens of thousands of students yearly. PCLT has a long record of establishing long-term partnerships with schools and communities, delivering leadership training in hundreds of schools and communities in every county in New Jersey as well as in twelve other states and countries. PCLT custom designs programs that address specific needs of clients, providing training that promotes collegiality, collaboration, and practical solutions to complex problems.

Sharon has consulted with institutions and corporations, focused on culture/climate change and is a frequent presenter at forums on leadership training, school reform and strategies for helping adolescents and young adults during critical life transitions.

Upon retiring from PCLT in 2009, Sharon has resumed her private practice in Princeton, New Jersey, as a psychologist working with individuals, couples, families, and groups of adolescents.

In recognition of her career of commitment to young people and their families, educators, schools and other institutions, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Education honors Dr. Sharon Rose Powell with its Alumni Achievement Award.
